Hey Glen, don't know if this will help, but seeing that you live in
Portland it may work for you. I was in Denver CO for only day and wanted to
find anything on an uncle of mine said to have been in the CO legislature
and a lawyer in Denver. We went to the State Capitol Building and while my
family did the tourist thing, I ran downstairs to records and asked the
ladies in there if they knew what I should do with so little time. It was my
first research trip away from home and my first exciting break. She typed
his name into their data base and told me that not only was he in the
legislature, he had been speaker of the house and I would find his name on
the marble plaque and a photo somewhere in the building. She printed up a
brief legal bio on his public service duties (which included more than I
knew) and found a small book of "Speakers of The House" and gave it to me!
His bio and photo were in it. She also found a security guard and had him
take me through all of the meeting rooms where photos of the house and
senate members hung. Fortunately for me they were not in session so we
literally ran from room to room with the guard and I searching all the group
photos, till we found him. He allowed me kick off my shoes and stand on a
chair to take a picture of the picture on the wall. It was so exciting! Boy
was my family impressed when they came down from the rotunda and I showed
them Great Uncle Cole up there on the huge marble plaque for speakers of the
house.
Short advice from long story, go to the court house, law library, college
reference library, everywhere you can think of and ,,,, ask. Nice people
abound.
Good Luck,
Nanci
