When I was a small girl living in Salem, OR.on Mill Creek (early 1950's) my
mother would drive the old Hudson car back & forth over the Barlow Trail,
she loved it : ) Speaking of Samuel Barlow, we are related to him thought
two "Larkin" girls who married two of Samuel Barlow's sons. My mother knew
our family history, but not as much as we know now a days with the Internet
& all of us Oregon trail pioneer families exchanging & giving help with
loads of information to each other as we can & if we have it, we know so
much more in this present age & it's great!
My mother loved history & loved the Columbia Gorge area & would stop at
every single historical marker out there. I took after my mother in these
ways, as I love the scenic beauty of Oregon & I love family history.

It would be very nice of you to take pictures of Howell Prairie area when
you can, Thanks!. We had our family reunion at MT. Angel, OR. last year &
went through Howell Prairie. I live in St. Helens, OR. but never make it
that way, except at that family reunion time & one other time to visit
Silver Falls State Park.

Your Stevens family may have joined in with another train coming through.
Quite often that happened.
 
My POwell families had another train join them.  It was the Hunter train.  I
can
find no record of the Powell train (about 50 wagons) and I am trying to find
something on the Hunter train.  That way one knows about what our families
experienced along the way.  You might try that.
 
I am writing a historical novel about the Powells travel to Oregon Territory
and
I'd like to have more than what I have to make the book interesting.  A lot
has
to be fabricated to glue the facts and dates together.
 
The Powells came over the trail, branched out onto the Barlow Trail to
Oregon
City (where I live) and then up the Willamette River to Linn County, Oregon.
 
Howell Prairie is beautiful farming country.  Sam Barlow , who built the
Barlow
Trail, lived a little north of there.  Linn County is quite a bit south of
Howell Prairie.
 
I can take a picture of Howell Prairie area for you if you'd like.  It
wouldn't
look like in the 1800's but you could see the terrain.
