[or-roots] General Information about Newspaper Research

I have found that I can go to my local library and request an inter library loan of newspapers from other libraries.  I usually have an idea of the date I am interested in and I ask for a date range of from 1 to 2 months around that date.

In Oregon the Main library in Multnomah County (Portland) has the Oregonian and the Oregon Journal back past 1900 (I believe).  All other Oregon newspapers are available from the University of Oregon's Knights Library in Eugene Oregon.

I have also gotten newspapers from Seattle, Oakland and Sacramento.

The State of California also offers city directories available on micro film.
