I had the same experience, but later saw a notice that some duplicate  
records had been found and that  you should try again. 
 
For me .......... First they found nothing for my  father.      Second time, 
they didn't have record of  his enlistment OR his actual discharge copy    BUT 
they had a  notice of him being discharged with his rank and serial number    
 
So try again.
