[or-roots] genealogical gold mine

As I posted before, Oregon legislated, if I recall correctly, that the counties
"SHALL" report vital stats to a certain office. But by 1930 they say a majority
of Counties had started to comply. I have deaths 1888-1905, no state records,
only the gravestones. I did get lucky on my gr . grandfather, his wife filed for
his Civil War pension, and she swore and affidavitt as to the date of death.
One might also check the 1890 veteran's census, sometime a relative might
be listed.

Again, I am not an expert here but my great grandfather died in 1909 in
Oregon and there is no death record. I would suggest that if you know
where he is buried you contact the cemetery and ask for his internment
  records.

I live near Denver, Colorado. My sister and I are traveling to Oregon
the first week of November. I want to try and look up as many records
as possible at that time. So far, I can't find my g.grandfather's death
cert. in Oregon. He died in 1908 and is buried at Pleasant Hill
  Cemetery, near Wilsonville.

Is anyone familiar with the Wilsonville area? The nameI am looking for
is John Nelson Wood and he homesteaded near Grahms Ferry Road 1900.

  Any info is helpful.

I'm not an expert on this but I think most land records are kept at the
  County Courthouse.

my great grandfather bought land around 1900 near Wilsonville. Can you
send me in the right direction to find that deed?

If I remember correctly, most of the claims were from about 1848 to
about 1860. Don't quote me on this. I can do lookups at the library if
you would like (just can't do them instantly).

You are correct. That book is wonderful. We have a set at my local
library and it is amazing the information they had on the people. One
of my ancestors that had several claims is in the book and it not only
gives his name and his wife's maiden name it even gives is father's and
  mother's maiden names.
  Have fun and happy hunting.

I just stumbled across this little item that might interest some of you,
  I
will probably be able to offer to do lookups in thsi in a few weeks as
things will slow down for me in another two or three weeks.
