Hey Nancy,
I had four kids graduate from Cleveland! Class of 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1991 and their dad and I always used to tell them about the Tik-tok and Scottys and Yaws.
I grew up in Kelso, Washington and we had Captain Yobys and A&W, but we came to Portland on the weekends and cruised Yaws looking for Jesuit boys!
My husband grew up in Toledo, Oregon and they had a little place on the corner called Mel's. It was just like "Happy Days".
They never were allowed to cruise Broadway or anywhere else so, because we lived in Eastmoreland, they all partied at the 4th Hole at Eastmoreland Golf Course. Tell me cruisin' wouldn't have been better.
They just shut down Waddles by the Interstate Bridge and covered up most of the sign. So sad.
Becky

I did too & also Tik-Tok. I used to go to Tik-Tok & A & W with my boy-friend whom I later married. I remember when they tore Tik-Tok down & they were going to build something in it's place but never did, only a big parking lot now. What a waste! They should have left it. I think more young people now a days need to have those kinds of memories as we did as teen-ages, maybe the world would be a better place to live in & these young kids wouldn't get so bored.
I went to Cleveland H. S. class of 67
Nancy

Compared to some on this list I am a baby but when I went to Grant High School in Portland (63-67) I use to catch the bus at 42nd and Sandy Boulevard to go home. While waiting there I would go into the Hamburger Stand located on this corner to eat something.
Since moving back to Oregon from traveling around the world I went back there and the place is still in business and still serving greasy burgers.
I am not sure when they originally open but when I was last there the place look just like it was when I was in high school.
