[or-roots] Memories of WWII

Bob:

I was born in July 1939; this makes me 66 and change today.

I'm up to episode 10 on the first disk. I must say that I find the video quality substandard, and the audio level is way way too low. But I'm enjoying VICTORY AT SEA again anyway. I did see it on TV in Portland back in the 1950's, and The History Channel runs a bunch of them now and then. FYI: The 16mm film versions I've seen (30 years ago) were crystal clear.

I love the music and Leonard Graves naration.

Our parents would park Doug and me in the Roxy Theater when they went into Sweet Home on the week

ends. I know I saw a lot of propaganda films during the war years. This is an empty lot now.

Cecil: We must be of the same generation. I, too, remember the War years, and I have Victory at Sea also. Really worth it. I also managed to get a Special Set from Disney called "Victory Through Air Power" by Alexander De Severski. it's animated by Disney, also has a bunch of War time Disney Cartoons, and some propaganda shorts about conserving for the War.

There are many things that I remember about WWII, but today my letter flipper (mail man), dropped the 2 DVD, 26 epasodes (12 hours total), of "Victory At Sea" through my mail slot. A very great buy!

I remember rationing, and the day I spilled a new 5 pound bad of sugar in the wood shed. Yikes!

I remember the really bad synthetic rubber ballons produced near the end of WWII. We didn't have to pay for them until you inflated them and they didn't break (Foster, Or, general store).

I remember the GI's who took a rest break in our barn.... That I almost burned down a few years later.
