I remember the blimp patrolling the coast line looking for Japanese subs.
The incident below was kept quiet so as not to panic the people of Oregon or
the rest of the West Coast. They wanted us to feel secure.
However, word did leak out about the sinking of the sub but more as a rumor,
like the incindiary (sp) bombs that drifted from Japan into our forest
lands. Fortunately, the Japanese didn't realize that in the winter the forests
wouldn't catch fire because everything was too wet. The bomb factory was located
in Japan and bombed by some of our brave Army Air Corps pilots and crews and
that took care of sending bombs over here on the air currents. (USAF wasn't
made into a separate service until after the war).

I remember when our forces sank a Japanese sub just off the coast of
Oregon. It
never made the news so not many people knew about it.
