The usual rule of thumb is "from what you know to what you don't know", and from the "most recent" to the
past.
And yes, start with your birth certificate, find Mom and Dads, find their marriage license, then death
certificates. The more recent, the more important it is to get them now, before the "identity theft
police" completely close down the records.
Then, go to the next generation. And so on. Sounds simple, doesn't it?
If you, and they, are/were in Oregon, it's a bit easier, as the govt hasn't put the kibosh on getting
these records nearly as much as some other states.
Give us an idea of where these folks were, and maybe we can help with resources.

I guess I don't know what is the best thing to do at this point. I have names, dates and places but need
to back up some of this information. What is the best way? Marriage liscense? birth and death
certificates? and how do I go about finding these things? I have to do everything at a distance so my
rescources are limited.
Thanks!
