Although death records were not required, there are some counties that do have death records previous to 1907. They may not be complete but there are death records in various counties in Oregon that exist. Some may only be seen at courthouses or historical societies but some may be in publications. Denise

ha haa>> not the reply (below) I expected--but it was just a funeral chapel (doesn't hurt to ask) & I also e-mailed Claggett Cem people & waiting to hear from them also. I WILL be walking the Cemeteries for sure that I & you all have mentioned in previous messages, although you never know, maybe I will contact DHS. hee heee <G> just kidding!! (I am hard up) I've already been in contact with all the others they listed. The thing is, I was told they didn't keep death records back past 1902-1903.

Death Records, County
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The registers and related records document deaths as registered by the county. Information typically includes the name of the deceased, date of death, sex, color, marital status, age, place of death, birthplace, occupation, father's name, father's birthplace, full maiden name of mother, mother's birthplace, cause of death, contributory cause of death, and name of person reporting the death.
The records also include some county copies of individual death certificates with similar information. The records were traditionally maintained by the county but custody was transferred later to the Oregon Health Division. Finally, custody was transferred to the Oregon State Archives.

Death Records
Series documents the recording of deaths in the county. Records include registers and certificates. Information includes registration number; place and date of death; name, sex, color, birth date and place, age, and marital status of the deceased; names and birthplaces of parents; primary and contributory cause of death; physician, registrar, and informant signatures; filing date; and date and place of burial.
Death records were not required by the state of Oregon until 1903 when the state began to officially register deaths. County death records have been inventoried through 1920. Access to death records is restricted for 50 years following the date of death by Oregon Administrative Rule 333-011-0096. Contact the Oregon State Archives for access to state death certificates that are more than 50 years old. Contact the Oregon Health Division, Center for Health Statistics for access to more recent death certificates.

Keizer Funeral Chapel has been in operation since 1984. So, no, we do not have the information you are searching for. The death certificates usually state the cemetery name of where an individual was buried. If you can locate the death certificate you can find him. Once you have the cemetery name, then you can call them and ask them. If you cannot find the death certificate then you're just going to have to call every cemtery in the area.
Hope this was helpfeul. Good luck with your search.
Sincerely

Subject: ggg-Grandfather's grave James McCubbins
Hello,
I have a question, I have been searching for many years for my ggg-Grandfather's grave & come to find out that he died in North Salem Marion Co., Oregon Sept. 6, 1877 & the oregon historical society just told me that North Salem is now considered the town of Keiser, OR. I was wondering if you had records back that far 1877 or who I could maybe I contact to find where my ggg-Grandfather is buried. His name James McCubbins born abt. 1810-1815 in Virginia & died North Salem Marion Co., Oregon Sept. 6, 1877. He was an Oregon Trail Pioneer of 1852 from Missouri.
Thank you!
