Whoa! Are you saying that Catherine (Pickett) Flynn, wife of Daniel Flynn had a grandmother whose maiden name was also Flynn? (I found that my grandmother, who provided the information for her father's death certificate, gave her paternal grandfather as "father" and her maternal grandmother as "mother" -- so perhaps this is what happened here).

What does the marriage license say?

Interesting that this family lived on Oak Street, Stillwater, MN from at least 1880 to 1920. If they were married in 1875 (twenty-five years of marriage in the 1900 census), is this where you found the marriage license?

I've spent the morning searching the 1860 and 1870 census for Minnesota for these folks, to no avail.

Yes, according to Catherine’s death certificate her father’s name was Edmund Pickett and her mother’s maiden name was Genevieve Flynn. I know that she came from New Brunswick Canada but I haven’t been able to find anything on her parents at all.

Dale

In the 1920, the first date is the year of immigration -- which is different for each of them, and the second is the date of naturalization -- again, different for each.

So, based on this, you would look for where Daniel was in 1891, and Catherine in 1875. Remembering that (a) this may not be correct, and (b) Catherine would have been naturalized as a child of her father, so probably no personal naturalization record. Do we know parent's names?

A child, Thomas, was born around 1891, in Minnesota. So, I'd be looking for Naturalization records for Daniel in the county courthouses there. As to Catherine, we have to find her parents to get this one.

What does the marriage license say?

Sorry it took so long to respond.
What I need to be clear on is the first date in the parentheses the year they came to the states and is the year after the NA the year they were supposedly naturalized? I have never been able to find Catherine’s parents or her before her marriage to Daniel. I did find him when he was single and living with a family named Casey when he was in his early 20’s.

So here is what I found

Year: 1920; Census Place: Stillwater Ward 2, Washington, Minnesota; Roll: T625_866; Page: 7A; Enumeration District: 185; Image: 998.
602 Oak Street

Seldon son m 2 19 S Minnesota Ireland/O Canada/E Book on River Boat

Year: 1900; Census Place: Stillwater Ward 2, Washington, Minnesota; Roll: T623 796; Page: 16B; Enumeration District: 45.
606 West Oak Street 285/328 Flyn Daniel Head w m April 1847 53 m 25 Ireland Ireland Ireland 186[3?5?] 35 (yrs in US) Na Captain on Boat
Katherin [B?] wife w f July 1855 44 m 25 5/5 Canada/E Canada/E Canada/E 1857 43
Edmund [W?] son w m Apr 1878 22 S Minnesota Ireland Canada/E Raftsman
Harry J. Son w m May 1880 20 S Minnesota Ireland Canada/E Fireman on Boat
Genevieve daughter w f June 1887 12 S Minnesota Ireland Canada/E At School
Thomas S. Son w m Sept 1891 9 S Minnesota Ireland Canada/E
Daniel R. Son w m [Mar?] 1895 5 Ireland Canada/E

Based on the date listed in 1920, which indicates he was naturalized in 1891, and the fact that Thomas S. was born in Stillwater in Sept of 1891, according to the 1900 census, I'd be checking in the Washington County, MN for the naturalization papers.

I've only done one or two naturalizations, and found them in county courthouse records, so am not the expert here. Perhaps you could begin at the http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnwashin/ to get some names of people and courthouses.

Good luck.

Pat
