That stretch would have been a real chore in that flood, they have
straightened out the creek and made the highway one long straightawy for
most of what would have been trouble for you in 1964, I think there are
still a couple places that may be tricky now. I wasn't sure if Aunt Emma and
I were going to spend Christmas by ourselves, but the water got low enough
to get me across the river to the ranch, they weren't willing to risk taking
the Joan out so we drove around and took a row boat from about a mile up the
creek from normal high tide line, we boated over the line fence and the
road, but the house was still a few feet out of the water. The big treat was
the four cows we thought had gotten washed away showing up at the bridge
Christmas day looking for something to eat. They had swam about a quarter
mile to get to high ground.

To get into Drain we drove from from high spot to high spot thru the water
over the road from I5 at Curtain.
