Okay, first of all some folks are forgetting to change their subject line to
meet their message, had a heck of a time figureing out what email register
had to do with most of the mail under that heading;

as the crow flies from the jct of 99 E and 99W just north of Junction city
to the nearest point on 99w in Benton County is about 4.33 miles, so yes it
isn't far away, however that may not be the answer to this conundrum, you
have to remember that our county boundries are not fixed at a forever
position, according to one map I have in 1853 Benton county was everything
between Polk and Umpqua County and Lane county was east of the freeway, or
rather where it is now. This is a little imprecise though and I think the
southern boundry was pretty close to it's current position, without a lot of
work or finding better maps it is hard to tell, but on the 1849 map Benton
Co. was everything south and west of Polk Co, east of Benton was all Lane
Co, north of Polk was yamhill and north of that was Clatsop and Columbia.
east of Polk yamhill was Marion and north of that running up the columbia
basin all the way to Canada was Clackamas, west of that were Clark and Lewis
on east and west side of puget sound.

So My point is she may have been born in Benton county and died in lane
county and lived her whole life in the same house, or if her family had that
place long enough I believe they could have actually been in as many as 4
different counties at the same residence as I am fairly sure the maps I have
do not spell it out correctly.

Mary Catherine Graves b. abt 1856, who has listed Junction City, Or as her
birthplace. I assumed it was correct, but never found any birth records for
her. Then I found several references to her being born in Benton Co. Or.
Seemed correct, but I still wonder why she is repeatedly saying she was born
in J.C.
Although technically Junction City is in Lane County, I believe the
Lane/Benton county line is very much nearby -- I suppose it would be quite
possible for someone or some location to have a Junction City mailing
address and actually be inside Benton County
