Hi Rhonda,
Getting back to you on my Wilburn King and Gideon Cox line. You are
right. After looking through my papers anew I see Wilburn was indeed
born in Ashe Co. NC, not Tennessee as I'd previously thought. He was
born in 1822. His wife was Marcella ( sometimes Marcilla) Cox, daugher
of Gideon Cox.
All I know of Wilburn's parents is that his father came from Germany
and his mother, Pennsylvania. The Kings and Coxes both came to Oregon
in the same 1846 wagon train emigration, although I haven't been able
to establish if they knew each other previously.
Gideon Smith Cox was born in Fountain Co. Indiana January 17, 1806,
where he married Susannah May Coffenbury/Coffenberry ( b. July1, 1808
[OH?] ) abt. 1825.
They had 17 living children.

As far as I know, any Gideon Cox in Marion County, Oregon after 1846 is
my fellow. I have run into other Gideon Coxes, but not with these
dates.

There is another Wilburn King that was involved in the military, quite
distinguished himself by the looks of it, but this is not the man I'm
after.

Thanks so much for your help and interest, Rhonda. Is this part of
your family line? Looking forward to hearing from you, Jane
