In answer to Carroll, yes, Fred Merrick went to Medford to become an
orchardist northeast of town and then about 1910-13 sold the orchard and bought the
property on Riverside where the auto court was later built.
He ran the auto court and building where the 2 dance halls, swimming pool,
and bowling alley were until he died in 1930. At that point his wife Stella
(Dodge) Merrick and son Emerson (my father) operated the facilities until Stella
died in 1951. After the estate was settled they sold to the Red Lion Inn
company who tore down the buildings. The auto court was a landmark for so many
years I hated to see it go, but the buildings had outlived their usefulness.
