[or-roots] Hyster safety

Well, I was thinking more in modern terms for "Macho" women (now there's and
oxymoron for you) but in fact I think you will probably find a few people of
the female persuasion in the mills as far back as the '20's; remember the
"War Effort"! I guest my best experience with that is my Aunt who was a
"burner" in the shipyards in WW2 and her foreman came to her one day and
said; "Nell, they're going to send me a 'WOMAN' to work for me, WHAT AM I
GOING TO DO???" Auntie had a good sense of humor and didn't even try to
point out to him how ridiculous that whole conversation sounded. I know that
women were and still are few and far between in the woods industry, in no
small part do to people with that same attitude, and of course it is an
industry that doesn't exactly appeal to a lot of women. Some kind of
predjudice against dirt and noise I guess, but I am sure there have always
been a few around at least since the last "Great War".

"Women mill workers"? Oh, my, and I thought that was something invented in
the 1970's. <G>
