Wow, many many thanks, Les! "Aunt Polly" Sherman I have indeed heard of, although I know her in family records as Margaret Sherman, and/or Margaret Hornbeck in some records.

>
>the site has a lot on the Lewis line but lists no children of this marriage, and my conditional is obvious from the "Aunt" you see here says to me either this is information corrupted from being transferred between programs or was put together by someone who "wasn't clear on the concept."

It is a 45 meg file though so if you are on dial-up you might want to reconsider that idea.

>Death: From the Roseburg News-Review, Friday, October 13, 1944, page 3:
>"MRS. EMMA HODGES DIES IN ROSEBURG. Mrs. Emma Rebecca Hodges, 77, died yesterday at her home in West Roseburg. She was born near Albany, Ore., the daughter of David and Mary Ann Lewis, pioneer settlers. She was married Dec. 24, 1888 to Jesse G. Hodges at Kent (sic), Wash. They moved back to Oregon in 1894, living in Jackson county until 1910, then moved to a ranch at Yoncalla, Douglas County, where they lived four years, then moved to Roseburg. Mr. Hodges passed away November 22, 1940. Surviving Mrs. Hodges are the following sons and daughters; Ted Hodges, Lookingglass; Clarence Hodges, Glide; Everett Hodges, Bremerton, Wash., Jesse and Thomas Hodges, Eugene, Ore.; Mildred Hughes, Roseburg; Mary Cronk, Emmett, Idaho; and Edna Walker, Eugene. Also surviving are two sisters, Ada Sanders, Albany, Ore., and Lula Carter, Cottage Grove; 22 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Roseburg Undertaking company chapel at 2:30 Sunday afternoon. Int
> erment will follow Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock in the Odd Fellows cemetery at Medford, Ore."

>The fact this is a Roseburg reference lit up my tree, I was sure there was a Fullerton connection, but if there is I don't have it in my family file.

>I am going to break off here Paulette; if this is all new stuff to you let me introduce you to the wonderful world of Google; I got all that by querying
>"Fielding Lewis" and then search within results for "Lucinda Moore" actually the first time I mistakenly used "Fielding Lewis' and then the search within results and I got fewer hits 330 and they seemed to be better quality info than the 390 hits I got by using full quotes. I always use quotes when searching as I usually get millions of useless hits otherwise, but my son has better luck finding things on Google without them which irritates me to no end.

Three of her seven children died on the way to Oregon as well: Charles Wesley Lewis b. abt. 1840 IL, died Sept. 6, 1852 near Burnt River, OR; Mary Ellen Lewis b. abt. 1838 IL, died Oct. 12, 1852 in Vancouver Barracks, WA; John Marion Lewis b. abt. 1849 MO, died Sept. 18, 1853 in Upper Cascades, OR.
