I have just completed editing Bancroft's History of Washington, Idaho and
Montana, great book!!
So why am I putting it on OR-Roots, this book contains a great amount of
information on Oregon and California Pioneers especially the Washington and
Idaho parts. Here are a couple of the brief bios
C. E. Forsythe was born in Pennsylvania, in 1850, and received a common
school education, with an apprenticeship at carpentering. In 1875 he removed
to Hood River, Oregon, but settled in Kelso, Washington, where he taught
school. He was elected county auditor in 1880, on the republican ticket,
serving four years; was also clerk and deputy clerk of the district court.
Subsequently engaged in real estate and acquired a comfortable fortune.
W. V. Rinehart of King County was born in Clinton County, Indiana, in 1836.
He resided in Oregon for many years, and served in the 1st Oregon Cavalry,
1862-5, being commissioned captain and major. In 1883 he removed to Seattle.
Many of the Washington Pioneers, 1844-1852 came to California and Oregon
before going to Washington.
