1896 + 35 = 1931

hmmm ... seems the 1930 census should be able to give you an idea of 
whether he served nearly the full term of his sentence, or going 
backwards, at least what date he was no longer there, to the nearest 
decade, which is more than you have now -- might be of some help in 
looking for the record ...
