[or-roots] 1895 census

Hi Susie,
Is there somewhere that this census can be viewed? From your reply I'm
assuming it is a county census. Does anyone know if other counties did a
1895 census?

I am hoping to find my husband's grandfather who was a forger. He was born
in Kentucky around 1885.  He was Edward Barrett in Pendleton, OR in 1908;
Charles Edward Howard in 1911 in Walla Walla, WA; Charles Howard when he
married my husband's grandmother in Eugene in 1915.

I can find him in the 1920 census while in Oregon State Penitentiary, and as
Robert Williams in California in the 1930 census. But I can not find any
proof of him existing before 1908. Any ideas or suggestions would be
welcomed!
Thanks,
Ronda

I ordered my copy from the Oregon State Archives on May 28 1903. The heading
is
Enumeration of the inhabitants of the County of Multnomah Oregon for the
Year 1895.
I cannot clearly read the headings and only initials are used for McCullough
V (Van?), M(female) ,?J, (male)M F(female), S( Female). I am not positive
that this is my family. The first two are marked Foreign and that does not
fit.

If anyone knows what the headings were on this census it could help sort
this family out.

Thanks,
Susie

Hi Susie,
Where can I look at this 1895 census? Was it a county census or a state
census?
Thanks,
Ronda

Thank you,
Connie is the researcher I hired and she did a wonderful job for me. From
the hospital records both Van and his wife were committed from Vernonia on
Dec 18 1898. Van had applied for a homestead in 1895 but did not make the
five year requirement to prove up the land. He would have been 81 at that
time.ed. He died of la grippe and old age and she of dementia and
seizures. They had three sons two of which I know were living at the time and
one named Samuel who died about the same time. Lafayette lived until 1945
and I lose Morgan after 1920 both in California. I believe but cannot
clearly read the census for 1895 that they were all living in Oregon on his
claim.
Susie

I found reference at the library today to a book on WorldCat that is about
Lone Fir Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. The book refers to names of persons
buried in Lone Fir Cemetery from Dr. Hawthorne's Asylum. It's by Connie
Lenzen (1989), if that's of any use to someone in this discussion.
