Barb H is correct in her email.  Health Statistics (Vital Records) has not relinquished any of the original birth certificates to our custody.  The issue does have to do with the difficulty in creating high enough quality surrogate images from the originals to feel they would be able to meet their requirements to produce legal documents when requested.   The archives will certainly make an announcement when the birth certificates are transferred to our custody.  In regards to Death Certificates they are available through us up to the year 1961.  I usually post to the list at the first of the year to remind everyone that another group has become available.

P.S. Happy Memorial Day to everyone.  The State Archives will be open Friday May 25th for regular business hours. We do not observe the statewide furlough days as the statutes designate us as a filing office and dictate that we are open Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00. I am aware the State Archives has the Original Death Certificates on hand (& those of 1961 and prior can be viewed/copied).  These are not in the online index of Historical records.

I am aware they have delayed birth certificates (& those appear in the online index for those individuals who had them and the copies are at the Archives).

Does the State Archives also have the Original Birth Certificates on hand
(& those prior to 1912 are viewable)?   Thanks for the clarification.
