How to Conduct an "Audit" Of Your Federal Grants Management Policies
A 90-minute Interactive Audio Conference
Wednesday, September 9, 2009
11:00pm to 12:30pm
Course Description:
Like a lot of entities that receive federal grants and subgrants, your
organization probably has a set of thick manuals that dictate policies
and procedures to be used to administer those federal awards. If your
organization is also like a lot of others, the manuals were drafted long
before you arrived. As federal policies have changed over the years, the
manuals have been supplemented. The odds are, though, that they've
seldom been culled because of the nagging fear that something will be
dropped that will leave you vulnerable to unwelcome charges of
noncompliance. They're probably also accepted as gospel using phrases
like, "The feds require us to do that." Only those staffers who are new
or who don't care to advance professionally dare question such
assertions. But with every policy and procedure in those manuals,
there's a cost of communicating it, implementing it, complying with it,
and enforcing it. And those costs can add up to real money! So, in tough
economic times when maximizing effectiveness in use of federal funds and
minimizing their administrative costs are essential, a "policy audit" is
probably in order.

A "federal grants management policy audit" is a systematic examination
of those policies and procedures conducted to identify situations where
you are going beyond what the federal government requires in the
management of funds and those where you're not doing everything that
really is required. Once careful authoritative identification occurs,
your organization is better positioned to make careful and informed
"business" decisions about what to retain, what to alter, and perhaps
what to dump. This audio conference, conducted by respected federal
grants management consultant Bob Lloyd, will help you start that
process.
Program Highlights:
*	To differentiate federal policies that are triggered by receipt
of federal grants and subgrants from those that apply because of your
status as an organization or an employer.
*	What specific federal grants management policy documents to use
in assessing your own?
*	How to hold your policies up against the proper criteria?
*	How to integrate federal policy requirements with other mandates
you face?
*	How to devise alternative responses to federal policy mandates?
*	What tools are available to identify best practices?
Plus, time will be set aside for an interactive Q&A session after the
presentation. Listen in and get the chance to ask the speaker your
specific question!
Level: Intermediate
Bob Lloyd is a respected authority on federal policies affecting the
