Willow Point on Howard Prairie Reservoir Gets Upgrade
Anglers and water skiers now have improved boating facilities at Willow
Point on Howard Prairie Reservoir in Jackson County. Jackson County, in
cooperation with the Oregon State Marine Board and the Sportfish
Restoration Fund through the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, has
made much-needed improvements to this popular boating facility, but
they’re not quite finished.
Willow Point has been a popular location for decades, but was in
desperate need of attention. The county acquired a grant to replace the
existing one-lane ramp with a concrete two-lane ramp. Contractors
improved and paved the gravel parking area and put new, self-adjusting
boarding floats in place. However, unpredictable weather and fluctuating
water levels prevented contractors from completing the lower end of the
ramp. The county realizes that the ramp is not quite long enough and is
asking boaters to be patient. The ramp extension should be completed
this fall or winter as water levels drop back down. In addition, Jackson
County will also be adding a new restroom and security lighting.
These projects are significant improvements and will better serve the
boating public. There are also three other launch ramps on Howard
Prairie that are open for business this year. They are Klum Landing,
Grizzly Creek, and Howard Prairie Resort. If you have any questions
about Willow Point or any other boating facility on Howard Prairie
Reservoir, please call 541-482-1979
