Harney County to Receive Boating Facility Grant

Harney County will receive a financial boost through a grant
awarded to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for Moon Reservoir. The
reservoir hosts a productive bass and trout fishery and is a popular
destination among local anglers. The Oregon State Marine Board recently
approved over $3.2 million in boating facility grants, statewide.
The BLM applied for, and was awarded a grant to fund
construction of a new, single-lane concrete ramp, improved gravel
parking and a new vault toilet. By improving Moon Reservoir with a
solid launch ramp surface, erosion will be minimized when vehicles
launch their boats. The new toilet and ADA parking spaces will also
bring this boat launch into compliance with current accessibility
guidelines and the enhanced gravel parking will offer boaters a better
circulation pattern with defined parking stalls. The Board approved
$42,500 in state boater funds combined with $110,000 of applicant cash
and $20,000 of in-kind contributions and $127,500 in federal Sport Fish
Restoration funds from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for a
project total of $300,000.
