Marion County to Receive Boating Facility Grants

Marion County will receive a financial boost through grants awarded to
the Oregon Department of Transportation and the U.S. Forest Service. 
The Oregon State Marine Board recently approved over $3.2 million in
boating facility grants, statewide.
	
The Oregon Department of Transportation applied for, and was awarded a
grant to construct a low-water concrete ramp and maneuvering area at the
Santiam Rest Area ramp.  The grant will also help pay for excavation,
site preparation and bank stabilization.  The Board approved $63,750 in
state boater funds combined with $44,190 of applicant cash and $6,000 of
in-kind contributions and $191,250 in Federal Sport Fish Restoration
funds from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for a project
total of $305,190.	
	
The Detroit Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest applied
for, and was awarded two grants.  The first grant will to replace the
existing pit toilets on Piety Island with new vault toilets and the
second grant will provide a new floating restroom to replace the oldest
one on the lake.  The Board approved $30,000 in state boater funds
combined with $30,000 of applicant cash and $1,800 of in-kind
contributions for a project total of $61,800 for the new Piety Island
toilets.  The Board also approved $32,500 in state boater funds combined
with $1,800 of in-kind contributions and $97,500 in federal Clean Vessel
Act funds for a project total of $131,800 for the newest floating
restroom on Detroit Lake.
