Marine Board Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Rules for Life Jacket Wear on Class III Rivers
The Oregon State Marine Board is seeking written public comment on proposed rules that help implement new legislation requiring life jackets to be worn by boaters navigating Class III or higher rapids.
The Oregon Legislature passed HB 2079 which requires life jackets to be worn when boating in Class III or higher white water rapids, which is similar to existing life jacket wear requirements for river guides and their passengers. The law goes into effect January 1, 2010. This rule would clarify the specific types of life jackets suitable for protective wear.
Written comments will be accepted until November 30 at 5 p.m. Comments may be submitted by mail to June LeTarte, OSMB, PO Box 14145, Salem, OR 97309; by email to osmb.rulemaking at state.or.us; or by fax to (503) 378-4597. Telephone comments will not be accepted.
