Parks and Recreation Receive Boating Facility Grants

The Oregon Department of Parks and Recreation was awarded two boating facility grants from the Marine Board at their quarterly meeting in Salem on April 28.

Parks and Recreation applied for, and received, two grants to purchase and install a floating restroom with a vessel waste pumpout for Rooster Rock State Park on the Columbia River, and another for Cove Palisades State Park on Lake Billy Chinook.

For Rooster Rock State Park, the Board approved $40,000 in state boater funds combined with $120,000 in federal Clean Vessel Act funds and $20,000 of in-kind contributions. The project total is $180,000.

For Cove Palisades State Park, the Board approved $35,000 in state boater funds combined with $105,000 in federal Clean Vessel Act funds and $12,000 of in-kind contributions. The project total is $152,000.

Floating restrooms and pumpout/dump stations are important to have available to boaters because they encourage proper waste disposal and help keep our waterways clean.
