Marine Board Meeting to Discuss Temporary Boating Restriction at the Tri-Met Bridge Project
The Oregon State Marine Board is holding a public meeting on Wednesday, March 30, in Portland to gather public comment on a proposal to temporarily restrict recreational boating at the Tri-Met bridge construction site on the Willamette River, between the Marquam and Ross Island bridges.
The meeting is from 7-9 p.m. at the Portland Building Auditorium, 1120 SW Fifth Ave.
The construction project will create significant safety issues for recreational boats and for workers operating the cranes, barges and other equipment associated with the bridge construction.
The proposed rule would affect recreational boat traffic, creating a slow-no-wake zone 500 feet upriver and 500 feet downriver from the centerline of the bridge construction project from June 2011 to December 2012. In addition, recreational boats would be prohibited from operating under the temporary work trestles that will be built on either side of the river, and within a safety zone under the swing of the cranes used to construct the bridge supports.
Written comment will be accepted through the end of March. Written public comments can be submitted via email to osmb.rulemaking at state.or.us<mailto:osmb.rulemaking at state.or.us> or by U.S. mail to June LeTarte, Rules Coordinator, 435 Commercial Street NE, Suite 400, P.O. Box 14145, Salem, OR 97309-5056. Comments via telephone cannot be accepted.
