Marine Board Approves Grant and Amends Rules on Two Waterways
The Oregon State Marine Board approved a grant request for the Oregon Youth Conservation Corps (OYCC) for 2011 summer boating facilities projects and approved rule changes on waterways in Multnomah and Linn counties.
OYCC hires, trains and deploys crew leaders and at-risk youth to enhance public boating facilities throughout the state. These youth crews gain valuable skills and work experience that helps prepare them for the work force. The Board passed a grant expenditure (subject to legislative approval of the agency's 2011-2013 budget) of $41,138 in state boater funds from the 2011-2013 funding cycle with $79,061 of in-kind match, for a total project cost of $120,199. There are 24 boating access sites that will benefit from OYCC's work, which is slated to begin in Clackamas, Columbia, Douglas, Josephine and Lane Counties on July 1, 2011.
The Board also approved a slow-no-wake zone within 100 feet of Edgewater Marina, as marked, on Foster Reservoir in Linn County. In addition, the Board approved a 5 MPH slow-no-wake rule on the Willamette River in Multnomah County during construction of the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Bridge near river mile 13.8. This slow-no-wake zone designates the area 500 feet upriver and 500 feet downriver from the centerline of the bridge construction project and will be in effect from June 15, 2011 to December 31, 2012.
The Board took no action on a proposal to reduce the default 200 foot slow-no-wake zone at the new Foothills Dock near Lake Oswego to 100 feet.
