Marine Board Approves Grant to City of Independence

                The Oregon State Marine Board approved a grant for a new boating access site for the City of Independence at their quarterly meeting held on June 27, in Sisters, OR.
The City applied for, and received a grant to construct a new boating facility along the Willamette River and includes a one-lane concrete boat ramp, boarding floats, asphalt access road, pre-fabricated vault toilet and a paved parking area.  The ramp will be constructed in the newly developed North Riverside Park.  The Board approved $98,690 in state boater funds combined with $171,474 of in-kind contributions.  Also authorized were $61,560 in state Restoration and Enhancement funds, and $480,750 in federal Sport Fish Restoration Funds, both administered by the Department of Fish and Wildlife.  The total cost for the project is $812,474.
The new boating facility will provide year-round access for motorized boats.  Paddlers can continue to use the City Park in downtown Independence to access the Willamette River.
The Oregon State Marine Board is funded entirely by user fees, and the revenue generated from the fees goes back to boaters in the form of boating facility improvements, law enforcement services, and education and outreach.
