Josephine County Boat Ramp Receives Small Access Project Award from SOBA

               Josephine County's new boat ramp at Indian Mary Park was recognized with the 2011 Small Access Project Award this week by the States Organization for Boating Access at the 25th Annual National Boating Access Conference held in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
            The Indian Mary boat ramp, also known as the "Mike Cooley Boat Launch" received the award  for its innovative design, environmental challenges, and outstanding partnership between Josephine County, the Middle Rogue Steelheader's Chapter of Trout Unlimited and the Marine Board.  Middle Rogue Steelheader, Mike Cooley, was instrumental in obtaining funding and permits for the project, by securing $2,000 in cash for the project and pulling together other members who helped donate more than 1500 hours of volunteer labor toward the project.
            The Indian Mary project also included a new parking area and restrooms.  The boating access facility was dedicated on September 7, 2010 and provides a safer launch into the river for drift and power boats.
            The boating facility project was funded by a grant from the federal Sport Fish Restoration Fund for $155,107 and contributions by the Oregon State Marine Board boater funds, $52,082, Josephine County, $15,000, Josephine County Parks Advisory Board, $2,704, and the Middle Rogue River Stealheaders Association, $2,502.  The project total was $227,431.
