Marine Board Approves Port of Brookings Grant, Other Items

               The Oregon State Marine Board met on Friday, July 13 in Salem, for their quarterly Board meeting.
            The Board approved a boating facilities grant for the Port of Brookings' Sports Harbor that sustained damaged from the March 2011 tsunami.  Three major tidal surges destroyed nearly 30% of the Sports Basin, including "A" dock, which was completely displaced.  The surge also deposited sediment in the basin making mooring a boat with a draft nearly impossible.  The Board authorized $51,875 in state boater funds, combined with $4,500 of in-kind contributions, $104,500 in federal Clean Vessel Act funds, and $61,125 in federal Boating Infrastructure Grant funds for a project total of $222,000.  This grant will allow for harbor dredging, dock repair and will replace the pumpout/dump station.
            The Board directed staff to move forward with the 2013-2015 proposed budget and approved two legislative concepts affecting the Ocean Charter Vessel and the Abandoned/Derelict Vessel programs.  Additionally, the Board elected a new Chairperson.  Chair George Tinker's (Coos Bay) term is concluding and the new Chair is Rick Allen (Madras) and Vice-Chair, Brian Carroll (Albany).
In a housekeeping move, the Board repealed Division 025, Temporary Boating Rules, OAR 250-025-0010, Purpose, and 250-025-0020 Scope.
