Southern Oregon Fires May Impact Klamath Boating Sites
The Oregon State Marine Board urges boaters to check fire conditions before traveling to, or launching in, waterways where active fires are burning.
Klamath County Sheriff marine patrol officers report that a growing wildfire near the Klamath River southwest of Klamath Falls is spreading rapidly and may result in boating access closures and could endanger people on the river. "Conditions may appear clear upstream of the fire, but that doesn't mean it's safe," said Randy Henry, Boating Safety Program Manager for the Marine Board. More lightning storms could spark additional fires, so rafters, kayakers and other boaters should check reports frequently throughout southern Oregon before launching.
