Marine Board Approves Boating Facilities Grant for Bully Creek
The Oregon State Marine Board approved a grant request from Malheur County to repair damage from the severe winter storms to the pavement in the parking area near the boat ramp on Bully Creek Reservoir. The grant was approved during the Marine Board's quarterly meeting, held on July 7, in Salem.

The grant will help remove and patch the most severely damaged areas, sealing cracks and applying an asphalt overlay to extend the useful life of the pavement. This form of treatment is more cost-effective compared to replacing the pavement, which can cost up to five times the amount of an overlay.
The Marine Board approved $107,280 in state boater funds, combined with $11,920 in Malheur County match for a project total of $119,200.
The Marine Board is funded by registration fees and marine fuel taxes paid by boaters. No general fund tax dollars are used to support the agency or its programs. Motorized boater-paid fees go back to boaters in the form of law enforcement services (on-the-water enforcement, training and equipment), education/outreach materials and boating access facility grants.

Marine Board Approves Boating Facility Grant for Irrigon Marina
The Oregon State Marine Board approved a grant request from the Irrigon Community Park and Recreation Maintenance District (ICPRD) to expand the parking lot and install a flush restroom near the top of the boat ramp at the Irrigon Marina on the Columbia River. The grant was approved during the Marine Board's quarterly meeting, held on July 7, in Salem.
[cid:image010.jpg at 01D2FA5D.5CA3B1E0]The existing parking area cannot accommodate the increased boating and fishing activity from March through November. The parking lot configuration was designed when the facility was built -in the late 1960's and early 1970's and parking stalls are short (38 feet) for the size of more current tow vehicles and boat trailers. As a result, many trailers extend well past the marked spaces, extending into the travel lanes making maneuvering difficult. Expanding the parking area will improve maneuvering and boater safety, as well as relieve congestion in other portions of the park.
The Marine Board approved $322,920 in state boater funds, combined with $62,739 in ICPRD match and $55,832.40 cash match from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for a project total of $441,491.40.

Marine Board Approves Boating Facility Grant for Wolf Creek
The Oregon State Marine Board approved a grant request from Union County for new self-adjusting docks for the boating access facility on Wolf Creek Reservoir. The grant was approved during the Marine Board's quarterly meeting, held on July 7, in Salem.

The existing docks were installed nine years ago. A bracket system holds the docks in place and allows the dock to float up and down a "guideway" as water levels change. The dock began to bind on the guideway, becoming submerged and unstable. The brackets repeatedly broke away from the wooden dock, and are bent which compromises the integrity of the dock structure.
The Marine Board approved $44,000 in state boater funds, combined with $9,200 in Union County match and $5,400 ODFW Restoration and Enhancement funds for a project total of $58,600. The new docks have an anticipated life of 20 years based on documented useful life of similar construction in Oregon.
