OSPS E-News ~ Workers Benefit Fund Rate Change

Announcements from OSPS to the users of the Oregon State Payroll Application osps-news at listsmart.osl.state.or.us

Good morning,

Effective April 1, 2013, there is a new rate for the Workers' Benefit Fund administered by the Department of Consumer and Business Services. The rate is 3.3 cents per hour or partial hour worked. The prior rate was 2.8 cents per hour.

The Workers' Benefit Fund covers workers with disabilities, the reemployment assistance program, research on occupational and environmental toxicology, and several other statutorily-directed programs (see ORS chapter 656 for details). Funding for the 3.3 cents per hour or partial hour is paid by both the employer (1.7 cents) and the employee (1.6 cents).

Beginning in April (and first appearing on the May 1st pay stub) there will be a charge of 1.6 cents per hour or partial hour worked to the employee. Hours worked in a month can vary. For illustration purposes, a month having 20 working days at 8 hours each day results in 160 potential hours that could be worked (assuming no overtime and no leave taken). The deduction from a paycheck for someone working 160 hours would be $2.56, a 32 cent increase.

Thank you,
Sandy
