Hello Payroll Professionals,

I just wanting to pass on the news. The states currently set up within Workday Payroll are Washington, Idaho, California, Texas, Arizona, Hawaii, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, New York, Tennessee, Virginia, Illinois, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Utah, Kentucky, Alaska, Iowa, Massachusetts, Arkansas, Indiana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, and South Carolina. If an employee lives in a state which is not yet set up, they will not see the option for the W-4. We are working as quickly as possible to get each state in the system.

If you have employees that are working out of state, you may get questions. Below are the steps that are needed in order for everything to line up for your out-of-state employees, to ensure they are withheld appropriately in their state.

Take care,

Jason

Greetings!

You and your staff are all doing amazing work in getting the working remotely requests in Workday and completing all the steps to make sure employees pay the taxes correctly on their January paycheck.

Here are some helpful tips:

  * The effective date of the change to the Alternate Work Address must be the first of the month - December 1st Workday Payroll uses the effective date to start paying the taxes to the other state. If you let the date default to the day it is changed (today), the majority will be taxed in Oregon, which the employee will have to file a return with Oregon to get back.
  * Employees must go to their Profile -> Pay -> Tax Elections in Workday to complete their W-4. If they do not, the default amount will be withheld from their pay, which could be more then they intend to have withheld.
  * Entries must be made and help cases sent to Workday Payroll (Payroll Admin) by December 23, 2022.

The states currently set up within Workday Payroll are Washington, Idaho, California, Texas, Arizona, Hawaii, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, New York, Tennessee, Virginia, Illinois, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Utah, Kentucky, Alaska, Iowa, Massachusetts, Arkansas, Indiana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, and South Carolina.
