Join us for the Annual Oregon Public Health Conference being held on
February 6th - 8th. There is still time to register for one of the below
listed tracks; Epi, Preparedness or Management. This year's conference
will include the latest updates and newest information from experts in
these fields.

2007 Annual Oregon Public Health Conference
Track 1: Epidemiology for Public Health Workers
Session Description
Topics in Epidemiology for Public Health Workers is an introductory to
intermediate level course designed for practicing state and local health
department professionals and other public health personnel. The course
focuses on core epidemiological topics for non-epidemiologist who need
to understand or use data on health and disease in public health
settings. Topics to be covered include: assessing disease occurrence
through surveillance and existing data, collecting and using survey
data, determining disease risk factors (understanding and using basic
epidemiologic study designs and measures of association), and
interpreting and presenting public health data. An interactive
problem-solving approach using case studies and facilitated small group
discussion will be used where applicable.

Victoria L. Holt, RN, MPH, PhD
Department of Epidemiology
School of Public Health and Community Medicine
University of Washington
Dr. Holt is a professor in the Department of Epidemiology in the School
of Public Health and
Community Medicine at the University of Washington. She is also
affiliated with the Fred
Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, where she conducts research on
women's reproductive
health topics, and the Harborview Injury Prevention and Research
Center, where she
researches issues pertaining to intimate partner violence prevention.
Dr. Holt currently teaches graduate-level courses on Epidemiologic
Methods and Reproductive Epidemiology at the University of Washington.
Janet Baseman, MPH, PhD
Department of Epidemiology
School of Public Health and Community Medicine
University of Washington
Dr. Baseman is a senior post-doctoral fellow in the Department of
Epidemiology at the
University of Washington. As a member of the Northwest Center's
epidemiology team, she
develops online trainings to improve the epidemiological knowledge and
skills of front line public health workers. Additionally, she works as
an epidemiologist with the UW Center for Excellence in Public Health
Informatics and the Kitsap County Health District.
Track 2: Public Health Preparedness
Session Description
This preparedness training session will address the roles that public
health workers need to assume during a response to a public health
emergency that involves mass dispensing of pharmaceuticals or
immunizations as part of a coordinated community response. Information
will be provided on federal, state, and local pharmaceutical-related
initiatives for public health response, including the Strategic National
Stockpile (SNS) and the Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI), with an
emphasis on procedures, processes, and tools of relevance to Oregon.
Findings and lessons learned from recent drills and exercises will be
reviewed.
Track 3: Public Health Management & Policy
Session Description
This course will provide a framework for public health practice by
examining the policy and organizational structures in the context of the
essential services of public health. The course will focus on managing
public health organizations and programs, the basic principles of human
resources management, and project and team management. Students will
understand how to apply the course content to real life situations
through participation in group activities and case studies.
