*Overview*

The Tigard Public Library is looking for a creative and knowledgeable
Bilingual Spanish Youth Services Librarian to join our team! An ideal
candidate for this position is enthusiastic about using their language
skills and cultural experience to expand the Tigard Library’s connection to
our Spanish speaking youth and families through collaborative community
outreach, responsive program development, excellent customer service, and
equity minded collection development. This position is 40 hours per week (1
FTE) and requires some regular evening and weekend shifts.

*Examples of Duties*

·         Builds and maintains connections with community organizations and
local schools to provide culturally sensitive and developmentally
appropriate outreach services for youth and families and to creatively
promote library programs and services.

·         Develops, presents, and evaluates a variety of programming for
youth and families (including story times, art and STEM programs,
workshops, etc) with a focus on developing responsive and equitable
programs that meet the interests and needs of our Spanish speaking
community.

·         Creates a welcoming experience for all library patrons by
providing excellent customer, readers advisory, reference, and technology
support services.

·         Builds and maintains equitable and inclusive collections in
assigned areas by reviewing and evaluating materials for addition to the
collection, analyzing and weeding materials to maintain a vibrant and
useful collection, and creating lists and displays to highlight and promote
use of the collection.

·         Supports strategic projects and initiatives by working
collaboratively with library teammates as assigned.

*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:*

·         Knowledge of the principles and practices of professional
librarianship, collections analysis, planning, and programming.

·         Skill in building and maintaining strong community partnerships.

·         Ability to speak, write and read English and Spanish fluently.

·         Knowledge of and/or experience with the Spanish-speaking
community, demonstrated by knowledge of the traditions, values, and customs
of the community being served.

·         Strong cultural sensitivity and competency abilities.



*Minimum Qualifications*

Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the
required knowledge, skills and abilities, to perform the essential
functions of the position, may be qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the
required qualifications would be:

·         Master's degree in library science from an accredited college or
university* AND*

·         Some library experience

·         Ability to speak, write and read English and Spanish fluently

Supplemental Information

*Union Representation: *SEIU

*Schedule:* This position is 40 hours per week (1 FTE) and requires some
regular evening and weekend shifts.


*Compensation: *The hourly range for this overtime eligible position is
$25.98-$34.81 per hour. The starting pay assignment, based on an analysis
of the successful candidate’s related experience and education in
accordance with the City’s pay equity policy and the Oregon Equal Pay Act,
would be no higher than $31.58 per hour*.  This position is eligible for an
additional 3% bilingual pay incentive.*

*Covid-19 Vaccination Requirement: *The City of Tigard has a COVID-19
vaccination mandate that has been suspended. The suspension will be
reviewed quarterly beginning December 31, 2022, or as conditions warrant.
If reinstated, the vaccination mandate would require most City employees to
be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If hired, and if the mandate is
reinstated, you would be required to submit proof of vaccination. For those
who have experienced barriers in accessing a COVID-19 vaccine, Tigard’s HR
team will assist in any way possible.
