Job Summary
Salem Public Library is seeking a Bilingual Spanish Librarian to join our team! As a Bilingual Librarian, you'll provide excellent customer service and information service in English and Spanish to patrons of all ages. In this position you'll use your expertise and experience to connect community members with library service through outreach, programming, collections and other library services.

The successful candidate for this full-time career Bilingual Librarian position will deliver programs and services both inside and outside of the library. Ideal candidates for this position are community oriented, relationship focused, and have experience in connecting with the Hispanic-Latino community members. They will possess excellent interpersonal communication skills, Readers' Advisory skills, the ability to work with a diverse user group and have proven track-record of exceptional customer service. The incumbent will also participate on internal teams and work groups.

Additional desired competencies include advanced experience using Microsoft Office software, knowledge of modern library systems and operations, and experience assisting users with computers, mobile devices and applications over various platforms.

Minimum requirement is a combination of education or work experience that would permit the candidate to perform the essential job duties. This position requires bilingual proficiency in Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing) with an additional incentive payment of five percent after successful completion of a fluency exam. The library's talent acquisition goals include hiring the candidate who is best able to meet the performance objectives of the role. We therefore, encourage persons with non-traditional skill set and experiences to apply, even if you believe you do not meet 100% of the qualifications and hiring criteria.

Typical ways to meet minimum qualifications could be graduation from an ALA Accredited Library school program with an MLS or MLIS degree. A Master's degree in a related field and one year experience providing services to diverse communities.

Other ways to meet the qualifications include a bachelor's degree and 2 years' experience providing services to diverse communities and/or working in public libraries, an associate degree in a related field and 4 years' experience providing services to diverse communities and/or working in public libraries.

What are the minimum qualifications?
*         Must pass the pre-employment background check and drug test (including marijuana.).
*         Must have an Oregon Driver license and a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards.
*         Master's degree in Library and/or Information Science, and some progressively responsible library or equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
*         Bilingual proficiency in Spanish (speaking, reading and writing).
*         Ability to work a varied schedule - including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
