The Subcommittee on Health, chaired by Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA), has scheduled
a hearing for Thursday, May 1, 2014, at 10 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn
House Office Building. The hearing is entitled “Telehealth to Digital
Medicine: How 21st Century Technology Can Benefit Patients.” Witnesses to
be announced.
“Advances in technology present tremendous opportunities to improve the
access to and quality of health care in areas all across the country,” said
Pitts. “How can technology help patients, particularly in rural
communities, gain access to doctors or specialists? We look forward to
examining how new technologies and advances in telemedicine can advance
efficiency, quality, and access to health care.”
Members have worked on a bipartisan basis on a number of bills including
H.R. 3077, the *Tele-MED Act* introduced by Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) and
Health Subcommittee Ranking Member Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ); H.R. 3306,
the *Telehealth Enhancement Act* introduced by subcommittee member Rep.
Gregg Harper (R-MS) and Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT); and H.R. 3750, the *Telehealth
Modernization Act* introduced by Rep. Doris Matsui (D-CA) and subcommittee
member Rep. Bill Johnson (R-OH).
