Dear State Library Youth Services Staff:
New York State is looking to you for inspiration! I'm a member of our state association's legislative committee, and I'm reaching out to ask if your state's library community sought passage, successfully or unsuccessfully, of any legislation beneficial to youth and libraries.

For example, NY has for two years sought passage of legislation requiring require every elementary and secondary school in NYS to provide students with a school library staffed by a certified School Library Media Specialist. (It has gained very little traction, viewed as an unfunded mandate.) On the flip side, a bill is on the Governor's desk to provide an opportunity for the taxpayer to make direct contributions to the state's "Love Your Library Fund" in support of local Summer Reading programs.

Your experiences, ideas, and thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Please reply directly to me. Thanks in advance!

Sincerely yours,
Mary Fellows
