One more link to share because I have to give a shoutout to our Boston-area librarians who were recently on our public radio station discussing “hot summer reads” (children, adult and YA) http://news.wgbh.org/2017/06/02/cant-miss-books-read-summer
AND they recorded at the WGBH satellite station in the recently renovated Boston Public Library central location!

(here’s some pics of the station if you want to see it https://www.risedisplay.com/clients/boston-public-library-wgbh-education-foundation/ it’s really cool to be there when they are recording, you can grab something at the café and sit and enjoy the show!)

Hello!
Most of the adult books I read are fantasy, but I particularly enjoyed the WWII novel The Alice Network, by Kate Quinn. As far as YA books go, I am salivating over Lord of Shadows, by Cassandra Clare!

Cheers!
Rebecca

Good morning,

Every other year, the Enoch Pratt Free Library of Baltimore hosts the Books for the Beast Conference. The 14th Annual Margaret Edwards Day: Books for the Beast Conference occurs October 28, 2017. The remarks of current YA authors and illustrators are part of the day, along with book signings and discussion groups of the reading list the committee compiles of top YA reads since the last conference. Attendees (teachers, librarians, teens (who are free of charge) read these YA titles prior to the conference in order to participate in book discussions. I am attaching the reading list and a flyer that provides a bit of history of this event. Ellen Oh and Jim Ottaviani will be featured speakers this year. So noot one YA recommendation -- but several to add to your list! If you live in the mid-Atlantic area and are interested in attending, please let me know -- online registration should be available soon.

Adult? Hmmmm....always lagging here. I did just finish Hillbilly Elegy (J.D. Vance) Not really light, summer reading, but definitely illuminating and thought-provoking, regardless of your personal political beliefs. Much to ponder here as we consider the state of our country today. May provide some interesting family reunion discussions this summer!

Carrie :)

I feel out of the loop on adult books too! Personally, I’m looking forward to reading Animals Strike Curious Poses by Elena Passarello – nonfiction essays about famous animals. And for YA, American Street by Ibi Zoboi-came out in February. About a girl and her mom trying to start a new life in Detroit but her mom is detained by immigration. And here’s a good looking list for summer YA books https://www.buzzfeed.com/farrahpenn/here-are-21-ya-books-youll-want-to-blow-your-money-on-this?utm_term=.jsBR5AbKY
I’ll definitely be adding a lot of those to my to-read list!

What a great teacher gift!

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas is still really hot in RI – the holds lists are a mile long.
I don’t know if it’s hot (I’m so out of touch with grown-up books) but I’m looking forward to Saints for All Occasions by J. Courtney Sullivan.

Ok, this is a fun one:

I gave my son’s teacher a gift certificate to our local indie bookstore and wrote on it to use it for something fun. She emailed me to thank me this morning, and asked for the hottest adult and hottest YA book of the summer. Yikes, just one of each?!

So I’m challenging the collective brain—what is your one hottest adult and one hottest YA pick of the summer? (I think she means new and what everyone’s reading right now…)
