Introductions: Kelly Southern facilitated the meeting and invited
participants to self-introduce. Jennifer Barrett announced that this
will be the last meeting she attends as she will soon be starting
graduate school. She anticipates that the Confederated Tribes of Coos
and Siuslaw will send a new representative to the meetings.

Rotary Duck Race 2010 Update: Greg Henderson reported that the Rotary
Duck Race ticket sales have started. Those interested in selling
tickets (either individual or corporate) may contact Greg at Oregon
Pacific Bank * 541.440.7603. The Rotary Clubs* goal for 2010 is to
raise $100,000. In the past the funds raised have been distributed to 5
non-profit organizations whose work prevents child abuse. This year the
Rotary Clubs have decided to fund 6 organizations who serve children
from birth to five years. The names of the organizations will soon be
released.

A large turnout is expected on the day of the race which is August 28th
at River Forks Park. Kathy Carter is organizing the Rotary Club events
for that day. For the first year, the YMCA will hold their Kids Day at
River Forks Park to coincide with the Duck Race. The YMCA is providing
free hamburgers and hot dogs for the event. An anticipated 1,000
people will participate.

Kelly Southern agreed to staff the CAPP activity table on the day of
the event. Other CAPP members who are able to lend a hand, please
contact Kelly directly. The group thanked Kelly for taking the lead.

Minutes: The general membership meeting minutes of June 16, 2010 were
unanimously approved as written. (All minutes are archived on the CAPP
list serve site.)

Treasurer*s Report: CAPP treasurer, Dede Henderson, was unable to be
at the meeting but submitted her report for presentation at the meeting.
There were no CAPP expenditures paid since the last report and the
balance in the account remains at $9,163.98.

First Annual Early Childhood Care & Education Conference: DCECPC
adopted the theme, *Passport to Education* and have confirmed almost all
of the conference presenters.

A planning meeting was held on July 19th and Elizabeth Droscher and
Diane Pietrzak represented CAPP. In response to DCECPC*s request for
CAPP assistance, Elizabeth is organizing the vendor tables and Diane is
working with Dede Henderson to identify and present potential
participant gifts to the planning committee.

Elizabeth announced that there will be 24 vendor tables available. She
will begin taking reservations in August. There will be no charge to
non-profit organizations and a small fee for others. In addition, each
organization with a table will be expected to contribute an item as a
door prize. Items relevant to early childhood education such as books
and games are recommended.

Head Start children will be making centerpieces for the tables and
Shawn Lybarger is coordinating this piece.

Diane reported that DeDe Henderson provided a comprehensive list of
websites with early childhood materials. The impressive list was
compiled by Holly Smucker, Dede & Greg*s niece, who holds a master*s
degree in education and recently returned to the US from an abroad
teaching assignment. DCECPC decided to include Holly*s list of websites
in the participants gift bag. Several other items are under
consideration. We*re all excite
d to have such a high quality conference
available to local early childhood educators.

Please help spread the word that people need to register early for two
reasons. First the price will be less and secondly we understand that
there is significant interest from people in neighboring counties.

Children*s Concert featuring Aaron Nigel Smith: Karin Hardin provided
an update on the Aaron Nigel Smith Concert scheduled for Saturday, July
24th from 4 pm to 6 pm at Stewart Park Bandshell. Tickets are $3 per
person. Healthy Start is coordinating the event and has received great
community support from *Champions of Children, Patrons of Parenting and
Backer of Babies.*

Present CAPP members unanimously approved a $100 donation to Healthy
Start to provide sponsorships for children. Healthy Start is authorized
to distribute the tickets and no records of specific recipients are
needed by CAPP. Our thoughts are that in addition to those children
known by Healthy Start as having exceptional need, it is possible that
there will be children playing at the park who do not have $3 with them
for entry. Everyone wants to be inviting and inclusive so the small
CAPP donation can help accomplish that goal.

Once again, Healthy Start, is off and running with what will
undoubtedly become a favorite kids event in Douglas County. Many thanks
to all who have contributed to providing this fun, family event.

Next meeting: August 18, 2010
3 pm to 5 pm at Oregon Pacific Bank
(For your calendaring purposes, CAPP meets on the
Third Wednesday of Every Month from 3 to 5 pm at Oregon Pacific Bank,
Roseburg. All are welcomed.)
