This life-long Salem resident and postcard collector shares

his slide show highlighting early Salem life and landmarks.

 

February 23 -Monica Mersinger

"Bush Family Photographs, 1890-1940"

Explore panoramic scenes of the Willamette Valley, Marion Count

and Salem, Oregon as captured by the Bush Family's cameras. 

 

March 23 - Lee Schrunk

"Handset Type & Early Printing Techniques"

The founder of Salem's 19th Century Operative Letterpress Museum shares his
wide-ranging knowledge of early printing.

 

April 27 - Virginia Green

"The Capitol Fire and its Piety Hill Neighbors"

Rebuilding the capitol, from the fire of April 25, 1935, dramatically
changed the landscape and lives of its Piety Hill neighbors. 

 

May 25 - Lee Lau

"Festivities and Street Life in Early Salem"

In the 1870s Salem's dignity and seriousness was contrasted with

galas at Reed's Opera House, runaway horses and cows downtown.

 

June 22 - Al Jones

"My Interviews with Famous People"

This long-time Capital Journal reporter and local historian shares his
experiences interviewing various celebrities and politicians.
