[or-roots] Huh? 60 years ago

Fall of 1949 it snowed at Thanksgiving, and wind was blowing car haulers off the
Columbia Highway. In February 1950 it was 3 above in Seattle and 8 above in
Portland with another Alaska storm on the way. We hit ice as far south as the
Cartinez Bridge out of Martinez CA. It froze at night in Walnut Creek, and
I found a block of ice under the fender of my 1937 Olds coupe, with and
Oregon rabbit encased in it.

In the 50s in Oregon the deposit depended on what kind of bottle. Beer
bottles were 1 cent. Pop bottles were 3 cents. Remember mug root beer.
Had to have the label on that one to get your deposit back, because it was
  pop in a beer bottle.
