anybody know what a register of testaments is?
this isn't an Oregon question but since you all are genealogy oriented I
thought someone might know;
The commissariot record of Edinburgh, register of testaments.
Edinburgh: British Record Society, Scottish Section, 1897, 309 pgs.
it consists of a list of Surname, given name, some kind of occupation-place
in the community designation and a date, some entries are cross referenced
to another entry instead of having a date.
Is this a list of dates these people gave testament to their political or
religious allegiance or what?
this is of interest to me for the following entry;
Melvill, James, in Ardat, par. of Luchars in Fife 27 Jan 1581-2
This could be an ancestor, as our best guess of origins of the line are
birth in; Leuchers Parish, Fifeshire, Scotland
