Hey Gary...just to add another little twist:  In the booklet that he  
prepared for one of the Oregon Bonney family gatherings, Wm. Bonney who was the  
director of the Washington State Historical Society in Tacoma ca. 1930's  noted:
"...Waconda, 'the town that was God'...."   I have  always wondered what 
reference he was making.  In researching that area  though, one finds a number of 
religious groups forming their own  communities ca. 1850's through 1860's.  In 
fact, it was the first stop of  Rev. Keil and his party who later moved north 
to Pacific County, (near Menlo)  Washington...this is the father of Willy 
Keil whose body was brought over the  Oregon Trail in a coffin filled with 
alcohol.
