Actually, it's not so 'rare' today. I 'adopted' my 'daughter' twelve
years ago. I was then 56, she was 22. With her I 'adopted' her 4 year
old son. I drove to Texas [from Oregon]and retrieved her, grandson and a
U-Haul full of possessions her marriage fell apart. They lived with me
for several years as she put her life back together. Six years ago I
walked her down the aisle and gave her away on behalf of both her
biological mother and myself. She has given me two more wonderful
grandchildren. She and my biological son call each other 'sis' and
'brother'. She is my daughter and will show as such in my will. She is
fully explained in my genealogical files so that no one will have to
'search for the proof', as many seem to do. She is my daughter, and I am
her dad. The courts do not have to be involved to have a bonding.

My two cents, FF
