[or-roots] Norwegian ancestry

Many thanks for this info, Les. You are partially Norwegian also!? Me, too. My father was Norwegian as were his parents. They came from Norway to Alberta, Canada around 1900 where he was born in 1904, and then the family came to the USA in 1920 by way of a train to Idaho, then to Washington, and Oregon.

I was fascinated by the name changes for the family along the way. Since I didn't know how to research info on Norwegian ancestry, I read books on Norwegian history, genealogy and patronymics, etc., and also contacted a helpful person in RAOGK who really clued me in on farm names in Norway, and how last names came to be generated. She helped me discover my grandfather's family and farm name in Norway, and after that I eventually located immigration and naturalization papers for my grandparents and father.

It will be fun to look into this new info as well.
