Marion County Marine Patrol Volunteers Recognized

The Marion County Marine Patrol volunteers received the Don Christensen Team Volunteer award for efforts during the 2010 boating season at the Marine Board's annual Law Enforcement Conference held in Bend, on October 19.
The Marion County Marine Patrol volunteers contributed 821 volunteer hours to assisting the marine patrol for on-the-water patrols, boater education and outreach efforts, and boat inspections. "This is an incredible group of volunteers to do so much for the community by helping the deputies keep boaters safe out on the water," said Marty Law, Boating Safety Program Manager for the Marine Board. "Their service at the boat ramps has been especially helpful during peak summer months. Their enthusiasm and involvement are unsurpassed."
The Don Christensen Team Volunteer award is named after former Board member, Don Christensen, who was an avid boater with a passion for boating safety, teaching, and reaching out to the community. Christensen was also an active member and boating safety instructor of the U.S. Power Squadrons.
